HOMEWORK

Believing that homework is an integral part of the school program, each teacher is at liberty to give homework to aid the students to advance in their studies.  Therefore, each student is required to complete his homework assignments on time.  Homework is given for several reasons.

  1. For reinforcement:  We believe that most students require adequate review to master material essential to their educational process.
  2. For practice:  Following classroom explanation, illustration, and review of new work, homework is given so that the material will be mastered.
  3. For remedial activity:  As instruction progresses, various weak points in a student’s grasp of a subject become evident.  Homework following instruction is given to overcome such difficulties.
  4. For special projects:  Book reports, compositions, special research assignments, and projects are some of the activities that are frequently the subject of homework attention.

We do request parents’ full cooperation in seeing that the assignments are completed.  Failure to complete homework will affect the student’s daily grade.

* Majority of homework consists of classroom work that has not been completed in class, although some outside work will be required for class projects.  The following averages are guidelines for daily homework times: K4 15: minutes, Grades K5-2: 30 minutes, Grades 3: 45 minutes, Grades 4: 50 minutes, Grades 5: 60 minutes, Grades 6: 90 minutes

Voices of Faith Christian Academy is committed to Wednesday night church services and youth meetings; therefore, teachers will not assign any work on Wednesdays that will hinder students’ attendance to a church service.  No homework, quizzes, or test will be assigned on Wednesday to be due on the following Thursday.  However, class assignments and quizzes may be assigned on Monday or Tuesday and be due on Thursday of the same week.

REPORTS

Progress Reports:  Progress reports are sent out four weeks into each grading period in order to provide parents with an appraisal of their child’s performance. The intent of these reports is to facilitate parent/teacher communication.  Parents wishing a conference should contact the teacher directly via email.

Report Cards:  Report cards are issued every nine weeks.  Questions and clarifications of grades may be answered at parent/teacher conferences, arranged at least one day in advance of the meeting.

Report cards will be sent home at the end of each nine-week period for grades K5 through Fifth.  The reports cards and the envelope is due back the next morning bearing the parent’s signature.  (It will be necessary to pay a $2.50 replacement fee for a lost report card.)

Important Notice:  Final report cards are to be picked up at the office between 8:30 and 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 30, unless you have left a self-addressed, stamped enveloped with the student’s teacher by the last day of school.

Grading Code: A 100-90, B 89-80, C 79-71, D 70, F=Below 69

Last Day of School: On the last day of school, K4-Sixth grade students will be dismissed on the regular schedule.
